In the absence of President Richard Levine and Vice-President Carrol Wolverton, Secretary Kathy Marsh presided.
It was announced that Richard and Carrol were at a book festival in Ormond Beach to promote Saturday at 2.
Margaret Gloag announced a workshop Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 at the public downtown library entitled “Murder Made Easy. The guest author will discuss what a mystery should include. Call 630-1420 for details.
Nate Tolar showed the cover for his novel, Shadrach. He hopes to bring them to the next meeting where members can purchase one for $12.
Joyce Davidson announced that she has submitted a novel to a literary agent.
A poem and a memoir were critiques. Jo Ann Harter shared a eulogy that she is presenting at her mother’s memorial service next month.
Joyce Davidson reported on the Writers’ Festival, sharing key points from Steve Berry, Diane Higgins, Frank Green, David Poyer, Lenore Hart and Anne Haw Holt. Be tough on yourself and revise, revise, revise were emphasized, along with establishing internal and external conflict, and reading it aloud.
Jo Ann Harter announced the POW conference, November 11. A half hour session with agent Barbara Casey will be offered for $40. Writers should send manuscripts in advance and she will critique it with those writers.
Howard mentioned that going back to FCCJ was still in the works.
Much Ado About Books will be Saturday, May 13 (in conflict with NFW meeting date).
It was discussed that perhaps the luncheon (with James Patterson that at least 2 NFW members will attend) might be over by 2. Howard will discuss this conflict with Richard and Carrol.
